Best Female Facial Hair Removal Products

Facial hair is often the bane of many a woman’s life, and it can be a struggle to find the right form of hair removal that works on this sensitive and highly visible area.

Luckily there are many different hair removal options on the market, from the very temporary to the more permanent options, and we have found the best for you.

Temporary Methods

Tweezing

Whether you use them as a regular hair removal method or not, everybody should have a good pair of tweezers in their medicine cabinet. Most people don’t know that there is a real difference between those $1 drugstore tweezers and the pricier professional style tweezers, but there is.

The main difference being that the former tend to break hairs at the skin’s surface while the latter pulls even the finest of hairs from the root. Great for both plucking all unwanted hairs from the face or for touch ups between treatments.

Tweezerman Stainless Steel Slant Tweezer

The most popular tweezers on the market come from the Tweezerman brand.

For less than $20 you can get a professional style pair of tweezers that last for years and will never let you down, as they can be used on eyebrow, upper lip, chin and sideburn hair easily and effectively.

Hair Removal Cream

Shaving is not really a recommended option for removing women’s facial hair due to the appearance of stubble and possible irritations, but hair removal creams are a great alternative.

Results usually last between 3 to 5 days and if all instructions are followed correctly there should not be any side effects. Here are a couple of the best options on the market right now:

Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo

This one is a huge favorite with its two-step system, the first step being the application of a protecting balm, the second step being the application of the hair removal cream.

Hair dissolves between 6-8 minutes and skin is left feeling soft and hydrated.

It is the most efficient facial hair removal cream on the market, and comes in two choices: fine to medium hair and coarse hair.

With 12 treatments in a box, it’s more than worth it cost wise.

Avon Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Moisturizing Facial Hair Removal Cream

This one is another favorite and works within 3-8 minutes, removing even the coarsest of hair easily.

It’s also super affordable; at less than $10 there are at least 10 uses in the tube.

While not as great at hydrating the skin as the Olay counterpart, the cream does come in a regular option and sensitive skin option.

As with any hair removal cream it is always best to do a skin test before use.

Waxing

Waxing is probably the most popular form of facial hair removal for women, both the salon and at-home type. There are some excellent at home products on the market, easy to use and highly effective.

Results can last up to 4 weeks and wax works well on both coarse and fine hair. Here are our favorite facial waxing products for use at home:

Gigi Brazilian Waxing Kit

If you are looking for the salon experience at home the Gigi Brazilian Waxing Kit is a great option.

For less than $50 you get everything you need for months worth of waxing, and you can give yourself a salon-worthy wax in the comfort of your own home and for a tiny fraction of the price.

You do need to wait for the wax to heat up (about 30 minutes), and it can be a little messy, but nothing a little practice can avoid. Results last up to 6 weeks and this wax can easily be used anywhere on the face.

Parissa Wax Strips

If you prefer the ease of cold wax strips Parissa’s 100% eco-friendly strips are great for a rapid and mess-free wax.

The strips come in three sizes for the face, bikini and armpits.

The wax is perfect for the sensitive skin on the face (although you may be left with a little redness for a few minutes post-wax).

Besides, it doesn’t require any type of pre-heating or preparation beforehand.

Semi-permanent and permanent methods

Laser

If you are looking for a more permanent method and are interested in making the investment, then laser hair removal may be for you.

Laser hair removal is the most effective on dark hair and does not work well on lighter hairs (blond, red or grey).

After one or two sessions you may already notice differences, and after an average of 7 sessions you will notice a significant difference as regrowth will be sparser and less frequent.

Once the full initial treatment has been completed, one or two touch ups sessions may be required every year, but other than that you should be able to enjoy smooth facial skin.

Laser sessions on the face are rapid and when performed by a licensed professional the risk of side effects is minimal. Average costs for the face run around $150 per session, and the results are often more than worth the investment.

Electrolysis

The only form of permanent hair removal approved by the FDA, and also the only current form that can eliminate all types and colors of hair, even grey hairs.

The process can take some time, as it attacks each hair one by one, and can also be a little painful, but the long term effects are more than satisfactory.

Electrolysis works best on small areas, so it’s highly suited to the upper lip and chin.

Sessions usually cost on average $45 and you can expect to need on average 20 sessions over the span of a year to see permanent results, possibly up to 40 sessions.

While more lengthy and painful than laser hair removal treatment, it does yield permanent results which is a huge benefit.

You Don't Need To Worry

Whether you are looking for a quick fix or a more permanent option, there is no need to suffer the appearance of facial hair in silence.

From fixing a few stray hairs with tweezers via waxing every month or so, to choosing to invest in laser or electrolysis treatments, or even combining several options, there are some fantastic products on the market that are efficient and will work for you.

    Hi,
Thank you for the very informative information on hair removal. This is quite an embarrassing situation. I am over 50, a nurse and am getting married in less than 6 months. Sometimes I feel like I have a 5 o’clock shadow, that my patients notice and its very very embarrassing. I have NO self confidence. There was a time that I started to shave “just a little” on the jaw line, well, as you can imagine, its 100 x worse. Does Vaniqa work on stubble? Does it work on coarse hair?
I guess I am asking this a little too late as I have already bought a tube of it 5 days ago. I am using as directed.
    Thank you
    Tammy
