Cost

MOOM for men front of pack

The product retails online for less than $15 per unit, which is very cheap, especially in comparison to the cost of professional waxing at a salon.

In terms of cost for home waxing kits, it's at the lower end and is what we call a barebones kit - you get exactly what you need to get the job done, but not the nice to have extras such as soothing lotions for use post treatment in order to minimise any irritation or a wax heater.

The size of the kit is 6oz, which truth be told isn't enough to last you for more than a session or two of waxing your limbs, is what you would expect for the $15 cost.

It's a very cost effective solution for hair removal given that the results of waxing like this generally last for 4 - 6 weeks before another session is needed.

Ease of Use

The kit comes with a how to guide to help beginners out and it's really easy to use.  Here are the steps that you'll go through:

1) Heating the solution - The sugaring solution comes in a glass container that's suitable for microwaving so you can heat it to the right temperature.  If you prefer, you can use the sugaring solution cold - but some people find that the higher temperature leads to better hair removal results because of the open pores.

2) Applying the solution - You'll then use one of the wooden applicators that comes with the kit to spread the solution onto your treatment area.  In the promotional video, MOOM calls this their revolutionary glazing technology, which is obviously a marketing ploy, because it's nothing more than spreading a solution onto the surface area of the skin with a wooden applicator.  That said, the substance is easily to apply evenly to the treatment area.

3) Pulling the out - Finally you take one of the reusable strips, press firmly over the area to be treated (running your hands up and down to ensure it gets sufficient purchase on the hairs underneath) and rip the hairs out.

The instruction guide goes over the correct "technique".  You also might want to watch this video from MOOM which shows the process for the woman's equivalent of this product (it works in exactly the same way):

Granted this is a promotional video, so it's very biased and you'll have to ignore some of the obvious marketing, but you can get an idea from the video how simple the process is.

Detailed Look at the Product Contents

MOOM for men contents

The product comes with:

  • 6oz hair remover
  • 12 large and 6 small washable reusable fabric strips
  • 4 wooden applicators
  • Instruction booklet

The 6oz hair removal solution doesn't spread far - if you're covering large treatment areas like legs and arms and you have a fair density of hair, you'll be lucky to get more than 2 waxing sessions out of it.

Here's what one particular customer had to say about this:-

"6 ounces was barely enough to do my arms and part of the chest. Most products seem to have 6 oz or less for their standard "kit" and it really isn't enough for much more than a couple of limbs--unless you just don't have much hair"

Amazon Reviewer PilotTech

As the reviewer mentioned, the 6oz size is very popular amongst home waxing kits (especially in this price range) and so the issue of longevity isn't something that's only specific to this particular product.

Is the Product Messy?

Home waxing / sugaring is never going to be the cleanest of methods, however given that the sugaring solution is easily removed simply by adding hot water, there were no issues with having to laboriously scrub the product off the surface of the skin, or the floor for that matter.

Heating Apparatus

To heat the solution, you simply use the glass container that it comes in.  It's quick and easy to microwave the sugaring solution to the right level before application.  A minute or two in the microwave and you're ready to go.

Product Ingredients

Here's a list of the ingredients in the sugaring solution:- Organic can sugar, organic chamomile tea, organic lemon juice, organic buswellia and organic aloe vera.

One of the key selling points of the product is that, unlike certain types of hair removal products, the sugaring solution is 100% organic so it doesn't contain any potentially harmful chemicals.  The solution does feel very nice on the skin and there is a lot to be said for using an organic solution, like this, rather than applying a mix of chemicals to your skin (such as depilatory creams which can potentially leave chemical burns).

How Painful is it?

It is not perfectly pain free as the marketing video from MOOM may suggest.  When you pull hairs out from the root, there is inevitably going to be some pain, no matter what waxing / sugaring solution is used.

If you heat the sugaring solution up and apply the correct technique, the pain is not of any great magnitude and certainly bearable.

Is MOOM for Men Worth Buying?

If you're looking for a cheap and effective home waxing kit then this is definitely worth purchasing.  It's cheap, no thrills and does what it says on the tin.

It doesn't contain all the niceties that the more expensive home waxing kits have, but if you're looking for a completely organic, no fuss, hair removal kit then you can't go wrong for the price.

Things we liked

  • Great value for money
  • 100% organic ingredients - feels nice on the skin
  • Smooth and consistent sugaring solution
  • Very easy to use
  • Good results - removes the majority of hair
  • Product dissolves in hot water - easy to clean
  • Can be heated in the microwave
  • Plenty of reusable strips

Things we didn't like

  • Fairly time consuming hair removal process
  • The sugaring solution (6oz) doesn't last very long - would prefer more solution for longevity
  • Bare bones contents - any products required to sooth irritation from waxing needs to be purchased separately
