The Top 10 Double Edge Safety Razors

Feeling a little lost when it comes to choosing a safety razor? Looking for something new to add to your collection? We have come up with the Top 10 double edge safety razors for you!

Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Safety Razor

Reviewed in more detail here, this is one of our favorite safety razors. Retailing at the very decent price of $40, Merkur’s 34C Heavy Duty razor comes with the classic Merkur performance and durability.

The brand’s popularity within the safety razor market is pretty much second to none and you can count on them to always provide a sturdy razor that will last for years at a highly affordable price.

This one is a great transition razor for those new to traditional wet shaving as its non-slip handle and sturdiness make the razor easy to use and highly efficient, even for those with shaky hands.

Edwin Jagger DE89

The Edwin Jagger DE89 safety razor is a great starter razor.

The razor is weighted at both ends which makes it practically foolproof to use and really helps avoid all types of nicks and cuts that can happen when you don’t know how to handle a safety razor correctly.

It’s also great for those with shaky hands and for those prone to ingrown hairs. At $30 it is a great deal especially due to the close and accurate shave you can expect any time. It also accepts all types of safety razor blades.

The only real downsides to this razor are the fact that the handle is a little short and can limit the range, and that there is no grip on the handle so it’s best to use it with very dry hands.

Other than that you can expect great things from the Edwin Jagger DE89!

Muhle R89

Another great German brand, Muhle’s R89 safety razor provides a precise and close shave with every use.

Another favorite for beginners as it is very easy to handle and makes the traditional wet shaving learning curve a little easier to get through.

Retailing at the same price as our favorite Merkur Heavy Duty razor, $40, this razor provides a very similar performance and outcome.

The Muhle R89 takes all types of blades, giving you the opportunity to try several until you find the combination that works for you. All in all a very solid razor and a great starting razor.

Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar

Even before we start talking about the excellent performance of the Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar safety razor, this one wins points for just looking good.

The sleek design and skull and crossbones etchings give it a real edge in terms of look.

And it’s not just good-looking, this razor provides excellent alignment, probably the best on the market, giving you a fantastic close shave without having to worry about the blades slipping and cutting you.

On the flipside, the razor isn’t weighted as well as others on this list so it is definitely to be left to the more experienced shaver. A seasoned wet shave enthusiast will love the extra close shave that this razor provides.

Merkur Futur

There is a real reason why Merkur named this one “Futur”: the design is super futuristic and contemporary and the razor seems to shine when you shave.

The smooth design is highly adjustable which makes it great for both left and right handers, as well as for all different styles of shaving.

While this adjustability makes it good for anyone to use, it also means that it you might not get the closest shave on each setting, but even at the price of $60, this beautiful satin-finished razor deserves a space in your bathroom.

Parker 99R

The Parker 99R has a 4 inch handle and weighs 3.4oz, making it a great choice for those with larger hands and who prefer a sturdy razor.

The butterfly opening is so easy to use that you can literally change a blade with one hand and the textured handle makes for a great grip.

You can use this razor in the shower without worrying about it slipping and cutting your face.

The long handle really benefits those who have big hands or those who use the razor on other harder to reach body parts, such as the back of the legs. A great razor at a great price ($32)!

Merkur 180 Long Handled Safety Razor

Another favorite of ours, reviewed in more detail here, the Merkur 180 Long Handled Safety Razor is a great razor for both men and women, beginners and experienced wet shavers. This razor is the long handled version of the bestselling classic Merkur 33C razor.

Retailing at less than $30 it is a high quality razor at an extremely affordable price. This razor will last you for years when taken care of correctly, and provides an extra close and high quality shave.

It is also the preferred razor of many people who suffer from sensitive skin that is prone to razor burn. Merkur never seems to let anyone down!

Seki Edge Feather

This beautiful razor comes at quite a high price, $150, but is worth its weight in gold just down to the amazing shave that it provides.

It gives you a fantastic close and even shave without any effort, leaving you with irritation-free, smooth skin.

The Seki Edge Feather razor feels as luxurious as it looks, and really makes shaving a pleasant pastime, day after day.

As it has been crafted for daily use you may have some trouble using it on a coarse beard, but it works like a dream on stubble.

This is also a wonderful gift for a loved one.

Ikon OSS DLC Safety Razor

While not as dear as the Seki Edge Feather razor, the Ikon OSS DLC Safety Razor is also on the higher end price-wise, at $75.

But well worth it as the beautifully crafted razor was especially designed to provide a smooth yet aggressive shave.

It is unique in that it comes with an open comb and a safety bar, providing dual versatility and allowing the shaver to really customize their shave.

A great option for the more experienced shaver, the Ikon OSS DLC is a fantastic choice in regards to both performance and design.

The DLC coated blades help prevent rust and keep the razor looking good for years.

Edwin Jagger Heather Ladies Double Edged Safety Razor

No list would be complete without a safety razor designed exclusively for women!

With traditional shaving becoming more and more popular with women as well as men, Edwin Jagger have created the Heather Ladies Double Edged Safety Razor.

At less than $40 this is a much more affordable shaving option than disposable cartridge razors, and the thumbs up it receives all around is great proof of how well it works.

The Heather has a long handle that makes it easy to use on all areas of the body and provides a close and safe shave.

The only downside to this razor is that the handle can be a little slippery when used in the shower – something to keep in mind if you are new to safety razor shaving!
