Eyebrows
A decent pair of tweezers are a must in your cosmetic toolbox, and all tweezers are not made equal.
They are not only ideal for precise eyebrow shaping, but also for removing any odd strays left behind after waxing or for removing hair from moles.

These Tweezerman tweezers are made from stainless steel with a matt enamel coating (available in various colours) to give you a good grip, as well as being aesthetically pleasing.

The tips are well aligned and sharp, to avoid slipping and breaking of your hair whilst tweezing.
We have chosen a slant-tipped tweezer, which is the best for shaping your brow, as it more closely follows your brow's contours.
The Tweezerman Slant is a good quality tweezer that should last for many years, for less than $20.
If you would like more information about tweezing and choosing the right tweezers for you, see our ultimate guide to tweezing.
This little device is essentially a battery operated mini shaver, good for tidying up and maintaining the shape of your eyebrows quickly.
The outward appearance is long and thin, similar in size and shape to a mascara, so convenient to keep in your purse for use anytime.

It has an attractive, feminine design in either pink or white, with a rose gold plate tip and trim.
Easy and painless to use, it has a very small precision, hypoallergenic shaver head with an inbuilt light to help you see what you are doing.
This box of 32 rectangular, cold wax, ready to use mini strips each measure 25mm x 7mm and are suitable for sensitive skin.
They have clear backing sheets making it easier for you to precisely see what you are doing.
There also an 8ml bottle of Azulene oil included with the strips for post wax application to soothe your skin and remove any wax residue.

The wand, as the name implies, is very slim and has a thin tip for precise application of the wax gel, which consists of natural, hypoallergenic ingredients for sensitive skin.
It measures 115mm x 15mm and contains 6g of the product which is dispensed by twisting the base of the wand until it comes out of the tip.

Also included are 10 reusable cloth strips and 4 pre-treatment wipes to cleanse the skin prior to treatment.
Although aimed at eyebrows, this product is also eminently suitable for upper lip and chin hair.

Whilst the precision tip makes it easy to place the wax gel correctly, the beauty of it is that if you do make a mistake, you can simply rinse it away with water and start again.
This is a toolkit designed specifically to help you shape your eyebrows correctly and symmetrically at home.
Whilst I would always advocate going to a salon for the initial shaping, if you do decide to go for the DIY option, this simple device will definitely help you to get it right.
The brow buddy itself is made from plastic and always reminds me of frogs legs in appearance - don't you think?

The two "legs" are joined by a cogs so that by pulling one open, it automatically opens the other to the same extent.
The device is used to determine where the brows should start and finish and where the highest point of the curve should be.

A white brow pencil is included with the kit to mark the 3 points and then draw on the shape and thickness you require.
You then remove all the hairs lying outside of the white lines by tweezing carefully to make 2 perfectly matched brows.
Face
The Fullife battery operated shaver is designed to remove peach fuzz and fine hair from your cheeks, chin and upper lip areas.
The dual blade stainless steel shaver head is 25mm in diameter, and comes with an attractive pink body and gold coloured trim.

The head is hypoallergenic for sensitive skin and the dual blades mean that you can achieve hair free, smooth skin more efficiently than with its single blade counterparts.
Powered by one standard AA battery (not included with product), it has a built in LED light to show up the fine hairs so that you don't miss any areas.
A cleaning brush is included, although it is rated IPX6 waterproof and so can be easily cleaned under running water.
The Bellabe consists very simply of a hypoallergenic coated coil spring with a handle at each end.
To use it you take a handle in the fingers of each hand and hold them so that the spring's coils at the top are spread open, whilst the coils at the bottom are closed.

You then place the coil against the skin and move it gently up in the opposite direction to the hair's natural growth, whilst simultaneously rolling the handles between your fingers.

This causes the spring to rotate and close the open coils which catch your hair to pull them out, in the same fashion as tweezing, but taking several hairs at a time.
It is fair to say that it is likely to you a bit of trial and error to master the technique, but once you have, it works well for fine hairs.
The Bellabe can be used for fine hair on your cheeks, chin, upper lip, sideburns and neck (not to be used for eyebrows or anywhere near the eyes as you would be in danger of catching your eyelashes).
It is small, portable, inexpensive and convenient, especially when travelling, and comes in a plastic storage tube.
Nair's facial depilatory cream comes in a good-sized 2oz (57g) tube and will take between 5 and 10 minutes to work.
It is specially formulated for facial hair and you can use it for the chin, cheeks and upper lip (not eyebrows).

The cream is pink and pleasantly scented and almond oil is included in the ingredients to moisturize and help avoid leaving your skin feeling dry after use.
It is easy and painless to use, but as with all such products, you do need to make sure to do a patch test prior to use to check for adverse reaction - the last thing you want is a rash all over your face.
Good value for money at less than $4 per tube.
Surgi Cream facial cream is manufactured in the USA and is specially developed for sensitive skin on the upper lip, chin and cheeks (not eyebrows).
It comes in a 1oz (28g) tube and also includes a 0.5oz (14g) tube of after-cream and an application spatula.

The cream works quickly, anything from 4 minutes to a maximum of 8 minutes and the smell is not at all unpleasant.
The after-cream soothes and moisturizes your skin post depilation.
As with all such products, you need to do a patch test 24 hours prior to use, for both the depilatory cream and after-cream to check for allergies.
This facial wax has been specially formulated for sensitive facial skin and comes in an 8oz can (14oz can also available).
Amongst its ingredients are extracts of honey, chamomile and marigold for their moisturizing, calming and antimicrobial properties.

The wax needs to be warmed in a wax warmer until it is the correct consistency to spread thinly, and you also need to purchase some waxing strips.
Gigi Facial Honee can be used for cheeks, upper lip, chin, hairline and eyebrows - suitable for fine and coarse facial hair.
This device uses IPL technology to remove and permanently reduce hair regrowth.
We have published a separate guide to IPL hair removal if you would like more information about how IPL works and what results you can expect.
The Sensation IPL device has 5 adjustable settings depending on the area you are treating.

It is loaded with 400,000 flashes, which is sufficient for many years' usage so no replacement cartridges are required.
Suitable for use on facial areas below the cheekbones i.e. cheeks, upper lip and chin, it can also be used for most body hair.
Made in the USA, it comes with a one year warranty and 180 day money back guarantee.
The Gillette Venus Silk-Expert 5001 may be a much more expensive IPL device than the Sensation above, but represents the higher end of the market. As you would expect therefore, it is packed with additional features for increased safety, comfort, speed and efficiency.

It has an inbuilt skin tone sensor to detect which of its 10 power levels is correct for the area it is treating, and if the tone is too dark to be safe it automatically stops.
The Silk-Expert is safe for use on the face below the cheekline as well as other areas of the body.
It is loaded with 300,000 flashes, which operate with 1 - 2 seconds between them for speed and, at maximum, offers the most power available for home devices.
There are 2 modes, precision (ideal for facial use) and glide.
