MANGROOMER Ultimate Pro

The device is fully rechargeable, with a quick charge battery, for convenient cordless use.

A Closer Look at the Features

Two Attachment Heads

The back hair trimmer attachment is best for thicker, coarse, long hairs.  It is a good 1.8" (4.6cm) wide for tackling larger areas efficiently and includes a flexible neck to better follow the contours of your body.

Flexible neck to both heads

The foil body groomer attachment, featuring the same flexible neck, is narrower and ideal to give a good, close shave for shorter hair and to maintain a smooth finish.

The two heads are easily alternated by depressing the unlock button by the head and turning to release.

The blades are manufactured from stainless steel and are hypoallergenic to minimise the risk of irritation, especially for sensitive skin.

In both cases the blade section can be popped off the head for easy cleaning after each use.

Extended Opening Handle

This is the feature that allows you the reach to shave your own back at home with no help.

The fully extended length is just over 2 ft (0.6m+) and it can be opened up to 135° maximum.

Both length of handle and degree of opening, can be manually adjusted and locked into your preferred position, depending on the area being shaved.

The handle has a non-slip rubber surface which gives a nice feel to the product and allows for a good, firm grip in use.

The whole thing folds down to a compact, lightweight size and can be locked in place for storage and travel.

There is a separate product available, the Caseling Hard Case, which is specially designed to take the MANGROOMER Ultimate Pro, power supply and additional shaver head, ideal for anyone who travels a lot.

Power

The device is powered by a quick charging battery for cordless use, anywhere.

There is an indicator light which glows red which charging and turns green to let you know when it is fully charged and ready for use.

There is an additional power burst mode to help cut through any particularly thick, coarse areas.   This is simply operated by the red power burst button located just below the on/off button.

How to Use

The shaver comes with multi-lingual instructions in the box.

Before first use, make sure that it is fully charged to preserve battery life.

  • Open the handle to the desired length and angle.  You will notice that it is quite stiff and clicky to do, but once opened feels very sturdy and secure.  Lock into position with the power hinge and extension lock buttons.
  • If it is the first time you are shaving long hair, then use the wide back groomer head to shave efficiently.
  • Switch on and shave the back upwards from the lowest point in one smooth movement.  You should only use the lightest of pressure and glide the head slowly across the skin.  You may need to go over the same area more than once, but try to avoid going over and over it too much, as this will be more likely to cause skin irritation.
  • You can shorten the handle or change the angle for shaving the sides of the back, from centre outwards, and for the shoulders.
  • Long Arrow Right
Use the red power boost button, if you need to, for any particularly thick or coarse areas.  This makes the blade operate faster to tackle thicker hair more easily.  Do move the head over the area slowly though, to avoid dragging.
  • Long Arrow Right
If you want to achieve a really close, smooth shave, attach the foil shaver head and repeat the process with this.  You can use the foil shaver head regularly to maintain a smooth, clean skin or stick with the main head, depending on your individual preference.
  • Long Arrow Right
Clean by popping off the blade cartridge from the blade head to rinse or brush.  If rinsing, make sure it is thoroughly dry before re-assembling.
  • Long Arrow Right
Close up and lock to store, recharging as necessary for regular use.

Pros and Cons of Shaving

Pros of Shaving
  • Quick and easy
  • Pain free
  • Can be done at home in privacy and comfort
  • One off cost - no need to visit salons for expensive waxing etc.

Cons of Shaving
  • Short lived results - regular maintenance required
  • Regrowth can be stubbly and irritating
  • There is risk of ingrown hairs and razor burn

Tips to Reduce Side Effects

The most important thing you can do to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs is to regularly exfoliate the skin between shaving.

This is because it prevents the blocking of pores and hair follicles with oil and dead skin cells and softens the skin, so that hair can easily grow through.

Ideally, have a hot bath or shower before shaving to soften the hair and skin and make it easier for the blades to do their work.

Immediately after shaving use a non-alcohol based balm, such as aloe or tea tree to soothe the area and wear loose fitting clothing where possible, to avoid chafing the newly shaved skin.

Q & A's

Can this shaver be used on other areas of the body?

Yes it can, although it is particularly designed to be good for the back and shoulders, the handle can be retracted for use on other areas such as chest, stomach etc.  It may be preferable to choose a different one though and keep this for your back.

Can you use it whilst it is plugged in?

No - it is designed for cordless use only and is only plugged in whilst charging.

Will it give a close shave?

Yes, use the trimmer head to cut long hair and then use the foil head to maintain the closest shave.

How long does is take to charge?

The initial charge can take up to 24 hours, although it doesn't usually take that long.  Thereafter a full charge will take a couple of hours at most.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that if you have back hair to remove, it can be difficult without help.

The MANGROOMER Ultimate Pro back shaver goes a long way to solving these difficulties, and if you prefer privacy, then it is a good product for you.

It has a number of useful features, is well made, with a sturdy feel and effective for even thick and coarse long hair.

Initially, it may feel a little awkward and needs a bit of practice, but before long it will just become another part of your regular grooming routine.

Available for a one-off investment of around $45 it will not break the bank, with the cost of replacement blades at $17 online.  Given the recommendation that the blade is replaced every 6 months or so, the whole thing is relatively inexpensive.
