A Closer Look at the Features

Dual Cutting Blades

The product boasts DualCut technology, but what does that actually mean?

Basically, the steel trimmers consist of two rows of tooth-like blades which, whilst cutting in opposite directions also softly touch to self-sharpen.

To get a good, even trim it is important to have very sharp blades and therefore, as well as providing a clean cut,  this feature helps prolong the life of the trimmer.

In fact, the manufacturer claims that the blades are just as sharp after 3 years of usage as they are when you first purchased the product.

Trimmers

The steel trimmers have non-corrosive, strong, steel blades for cutting cleanly and evenly through thick hair.

Narrow Detail Trimmer

Extra Wide Trimmer

The narrow, precision trimmer is designed to make it easier to style small, intricate areas of the beard.

The extra wide hair trimmer is for cutting larger areas of hair more efficiently, evenly and quickly (with a bit of practice).

Philips Norelco MG6650/49 Multigroom ear and nose hair trimmer

The ear and nose hair trimmer is specifically designed for the purpose.

It has a narrow rotary cutter to safely trim hair in these delicate areas with minimal risk of nicks or irritation.

This is a handy little tool if you have visible nose or ear hair that you wish to trim back, and is the safest way to tackle it.

Trimming Guards

The 14 trimming guards are apparently reinforced to prevent bending or buckling, although I am not too sure how much of a problem that can actually be with these types of products.

They are attached over the trimmers to ensure that you get a nice, even cut at the length that you require.

They are each individually marked with their lengths or usage:

  • 2 Stubble Guards - 1mm, 2mm
  • 3 Beard Guards - 3mm, 5mm, 7mm
  • 1 Eyebrow Guard - 6mm
  • 4 Hair Guards - 4mm, 9mm, 12mm, 16mm
  • 2 Body Guards - 3mm, 5mm
  • 2 Fading Guards - 4 - 9mm

As you can see, they come together to form a pretty comprehensive package to suit most requirements.

Shaver

Finally, there is the foil shaver head to complete the close shaving of facial areas around your beard.

It is a slim design to make it easier to shave cleanly and maintain precise, straight edges.

Using the Multigroom

Prior to first use the Multigroom needs to be fully charged, which will take about 3 hours.

During charging the indicator light flashes white and will stop flashing and glow continuously to show that charging is complete.

When the battery is nearly empty the light is orange.

The device should be used on dry skin and hair for best results.

To detach a cutting element you simply push up against the teeth and to re-attach, line up the lug into the slot and click back in.

The trimming guards are attached by sliding the front part onto the cutting teeth and clicking into place by pushing down in the center.  To remove, the process is reversed by simply pulling the back part up gently and sliding forwards.

There is an arrow on the back of the shaver head and ear/nose trimmer.  Place your finger on the arrow and push off the device in the direction indicated.

The product comes with a clear set of instructions as to how to use it and which cutters and attachments to use for each area of the body, face or head.

To be most effective, you should trim against the direction of natural hair growth, making sure that the guard is continuously in touch with your skin.

Always clean the device thoroughly after each use and store in the pouch supplied.

FAQ's

Can this product be used in the groin area?

Yes it can, using one of the body guards.

Can it be used in the shower?

No, but all the parts are washable for cleaning, just make sure that they are properly dry before using or charging the device.

Can I use it while it is plugged in?

Yes you can - it is suitable for both corded and cordless use.

Can you tell when the battery is getting low?

There is an orange light to indicate when the battery needs recharging.  There is also a 5 minute quick charge feature, or it can be used whilst charging (plugged in) if you get caught short.

What is the shortest length?

The shortest trim length is the 1mm stubble guard, but without a guard you can trim to 0.5mm.  This is not recommended for sensitive areas such as groin etc. where you should always use a trimming guard for safety, to avoid painful nicks or cuts and irritation.

Are there any built in length settings?

There are no built in settings, they are completely controlled by the various guards.

Conclusion

Here is a summary of our findings in terms of what we particularly liked about the product and what we weren't so keen on:

Pros
  • Good Value - you get a lot for your buck with this multi-purpose groomer.
  • Corded or Cordless - if you forget to charge it up, no worries.  Also a quick charge option.
  • Versatile - one device covers face, head and body, including nose and ears.
  • Easy DIY Grooming - no costly visits to a professional salon, use in the comfort of home at your own convenience.
  • Guarantee - 45 day money back and 5 year limited warranty

Cons
  • Multiple Attachments - need to change guards for each length and store them.
  • Shaving Limitation - foil shaver is great for detailing for anyone with a beard, but would not replace your regular shaver otherwise.

In summary, this is a good value for money product from a well-respected Brand.

If you are looking for a single device for all your grooming needs at an affordable price, then the Philips Norelco MG7750/49 7000 has it covered.

All in all, you can't really go wrong with a 45 day money back guarantee and lengthy warranty.
