The Best Mustache Waxing Products

Keeping a mustache in check takes a lot of work. Whether you are just going for the regular style chevron or the thicker walrus, the Dali or the perfectly shaped handlebar, a lot of time and effort is going to go into creating and then maintaining the style.

A well-dressed mustache can be classy, eccentric, fun, stylish and very unique; however a badly styled one may just end up looking silly and messy.

Sometimes it takes a while to find the style that works for you, but once you do it will take hours of trimming, shaving, coaxing and styling to finally getting it into that perfect shape - and when you do you want to keep it that way.

This is when mustache wax comes into play. This is not the kind of wax that you use to remove the hair on your face, more like the wax you use to keep hair in place. There are three types of mustache wax on the market right now, and each type works in a different way:

  • Soft wax: usually used on shorter mustaches as it helps keeps stray hairs in place and offers a lovely sheen.
  • Medium wax: usually used on longer mustaches to help maintain style.
  • Firm wax: also usually used on longer mustaches as it holds hairs in place firmly even in hot and humid weather.

You will need to try out a few different ones before finding the one that works for you and your stache. It all depends on the texture of your facial hair, the climate you live in and the style of mustache you are aiming for.

We have picked out our favorite waxes for you below. Waxes come in different shades and scents so you always need to keep this in mind when trying them on your own hair.

Firehouse Moustache Wax, Wacky Tacky

The Wacky Tacky version of this hand-made wax may seem a little dark to the eye, but it’s actually quite a bit lighter when applied.

It is best for darker colored hair.

It’s so easy to apply, as long as you use it at room temperature and it dries to a nice stiff hold.

It’s a great wax for those who live in hot and humid climates as it holds well even at the highest temperatures.

The coolest thing about this specific brand is that it is really hand-made in batches by its creator, and contains no dyes or fragrances.

It is 100% natural and eco-friendly.

While the Wacky Tacky is the customer favorite, Firehouse Moustache Wax also comes in Light Wax for gray and blond hairs and Dark Wax for brown and red hair.

It may take a little practice to get the right amount on your stache, but it’s more than worth it for the hold it provides.

Stache Bomb Stache Wax

If we were just reviewing the esthetics alone, this one would be worth it just for the tin! The tin features a cool retro pin-up who apparently goes by the name Stache Bomb Stacy.

This wax is totally marketed towards the mustache-wearing hipster type who may or may not be into the steampunk look, and who really always wants to look dapper.

Don’t be put off by the gimmicky side – Stache Bomb Stache Wax really does the job.

It’s neutral color works on any type of hair, and although it does have quite a strong beeswax and pine smell it doesn’t last for very long.

This one is softer than the Firehouse wax listed above, and better suited to less extravagant staches, but it holds very well through-out the day. Stache Bomb Stache Wax is also 100% natural and hand-made.

Clubman Moustache Wax (pack of 3)

Clubman’s Moustache Wax is very easy to apply as it is a lot creamier than other waxes, and comes in a tube with a small comb. The comb is great at making sure the wax dries evenly and doesn’t clump.

This is important because when the wax dries it really dries! It provides a wonderful hold for any type of style that you are aiming for.

The neutral color works on all hair colors and types and doesn’t have a strong smell or taste.

Also, even though it holds well, you can still manipulate your mustache during the day to change the style a little if you want.

An added plus is that it washes out well with water (so you may not want to use this one if you are going for a long run or work out).

Clubman Moustache Wax comes in neutral and brown for dark hairs, and is one of the most affordable waxes on the market.

Fisticuffs Mustache Wax

Fisticuffs Mustache Wax is a great medium hold wax that comes in a perfectly sized tin to fit in your pocket for middle of the day touch-ups.

It’s a great fit for a smooth handlebar mustache, and applies easily for an optimal hold.

Another 100% natural, hand-made and poured wax, this one has a lovely light citrusy smell and doesn’t change the color of your mustache.

While the hold is not as good as the Fireman’s wax hold is, it does a great job keeping those handlebars perfectly styled. In addition, the little tin is very affordable at less than $10.

Woodsman Mustache Wax

Woodsman Mustache Wax is 100% natural, made with ingredients such as beeswax, lanolin and cocoa butter.

It has a lovely cedar and pine scent and provides a great hold, all day long.

Handcrafted in the middle of Texas, these guys know quite a bit about the art of keeping a mustache in shape in the middle of summer, and this shows in their product.

While providing a great hold for even the most adventurous of mustaches, it also conditions the hair, leaving you with soft and malleable whiskers.

It works exceptionally well on longer and coarser hairs.
