Top Beard Oils – Six of the Best
What we Looked For
There are so many beard oil products available to choose from, so what were we looking for in deciding on our top 6 picks?
Well, beard oil basically consists of one or more carrier oils, which make up the bulk of the product, together with one or more essential oils in small quantities to give the scent.
There are also unscented products containing no essential oils if you prefer or if you have particularly sensitive skin - any irritation would likely come from the essential oils.
In choosing our oils, we checked the ingredients for light, natural, easily absorbed carrier oils with good stable shelf lives, and beneficial properties together with natural essential oils for scent, rather than those which have been artificially produced.
For more detailed information about oils and their properties, see our separate Beard Oil article.
We also had an eye on cost, and found oils ranging from $4.50 - $20 per ounce including one vegan friendly oil, so hopefully something to suit everyone.

How to Use Beard Oil and Why Bother?
How to Apply
Beard oil is very easy to use - just put a few drops (2 or 3 should be sufficient) on the palm of your hand.
Gently rub your two hands together to distribute the oil without rubbing in and then apply to the beard, using one hand on each side to coat evenly from top to bottom.
Finally massage into the hair and the skin beneath until the oil is absorbed and the beard and skin feel soft and moisturized.
How often you use it is up to you, but ideally at least after each time you wash the beard, to replenish the oil in the hair and skin.
Why bother with beard oil?
Well, the fact that you have grown a beard presumably means that you like the look.
Using beard oil will keep the beard feeling soft and moisturized as well as making it easier to brush or comb into shape so that it looks cared for and not just a bushy mess.
It also relieves irritation and itchiness, especially when you first start to grow the beard, and combats the effects of beardruff (flaky skin) which is not a good look!
Finally, the nourishing, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial nature of many of the oils used keep the beard and skin healthy.
Of course, many beard oils are also scented with essential oils, so you can experiment to find the best one for you.
